Italian marble in Mumbai

The white marbles of the Apuan Alps — Statuario, Calacatta, Carrara — and the rest of Italy's quarries, selected block by block, finished in-house and stood up as full slabs in our Vile Parle gallery.

Why buy Italian marble from a Mumbai gallery, not a photograph

No two slabs of Italian marble are alike. A Statuario block can run from bright, sparse veining at one end to a dense grey field at the other, and a photograph of one slab tells you little about the next. The only honest way to choose is to stand in front of the actual slabs, in daylight, and see the whole lot together.

That is how our gallery works. Our gallery is in the Main Marble Market on the Western Express Highway service road, Vile Parle East — near Hotel Sahara Star and the Domestic Airport signal. Open Monday to Saturday, 10 AM to 7 PM.

Selected in Italy, finished in Silvassa

We travel to the quarries and select blocks ourselves rather than buying finished slabs on the open market. Imported blocks are cut, polished and finished at our own marble-processing factory in Naroli, Silvassa, so we control quality from the block to the finished slab.

Finishing in-house is what lets us offer book-matched pairs, a honed or brushed surface instead of the default polish, and cut-to-size pieces for a kitchen island or a vanity — from the same block, so the veining runs true.

Which Italian marble for which room

Statuario and Calacatta carry the bold veining that suits a feature wall, a kitchen island or a double-height lobby, where the drama can be seen. Carrara's softer, greyer field is the quieter choice for floors and bathrooms. Honed finishes hide etching better in a busy kitchen; polished finishes give the depth people expect from Italian marble in a living room.

Our Journal explains the differences between the three white marbles in detail, and how each behaves in a Mumbai home.

Questions we are asked

Where can I see Italian marble slabs in Mumbai?

At the Flora Marble gallery in the Main Marble Market, Western Express Highway service road, Vile Parle East — near Hotel Sahara Star. Stocked slabs stand in the gallery to be seen in person; catalogue stones are sourced to order and shown before you commit.

Is Flora Marble's Italian marble genuinely from Italy?

Yes. Our Italian Collection is quarried in Italy — the Apuan Alps above Carrara for the white marbles, and other Italian quarries for the rest — selected by us at the quarry and imported as blocks or slabs.

How is Italian marble priced in Mumbai?

Per project. Price depends on the specific block, its grade and veining, thickness, slab size, finish and the quantity needed, so we quote against your drawings rather than publishing a rate per square foot.

Can you book-match or cut Italian marble to size?

Yes — our own factory in Naroli, Silvassa cuts, polishes, book-matches and finishes every slab, so pairs, cut-to-size pieces and alternative finishes come from the same block.
