What is book-matching?
Book-matching is the art of taking two consecutive slabs cut from the same block and opening them like the pages of a book, so the veining on one is a mirror image of the other. Placed side by side, the two halves form a single symmetrical pattern — a butterfly of stone — that no single slab could ever show on its own.
Why it is so striking
Natural veining is random; book-matching imposes a moment of symmetry on it. The eye reads the mirrored pattern instantly as deliberate and rare, which is exactly why it is reserved for the places a room is built around — a feature wall, a fireplace, an island, a vanity.
